Two new resources are available for educators and others who want to better understand the needs of children in their area.

The U.S. Childhood Report from Save the Children ranks U.S. states and counties on a variety of markers: child poverty, child deaths, child hunger, school dropout, teen pregnancy, and COVID-19 vulnerability. An interactive map enables users to see how each state ranks overall and to drill down to individual county rankings. It’s also possible to generate infographics comparing counties to each other.

The Early Childhood Data Dashboard from Sorenson Impact Center uses data from the U.S. Census Bureau and the Centers for Disease Control and prevention to provide a snapshot of young children ages 6 and under in every U.S. country. When users select their state and county from a drop-down menu, the dashboard generates data on racial and ethnic demographics of the children in the county, the percentage of children at various federal poverty levels, the age and education level of new mothers in the community, the percentage of children born prematurely or with low birth weights, and infant mortality levels.
