An Indigenous People’s History of the United States by Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz (Beacon Press, 2014).

This book is part of the Revisioning History series, which writes U.S. history from the perspectives of marginalized peoples. Other titles include A Queer History of the United States, A Disability History of the United States, An African American and Latinx History of the United States, and A Black Women’s History of the United States. The authors of these books attempt to fill in the gaps in the historical narrative of the United States and provide a more accurate understanding of the complex history of this country and its people. Their perspectives are invaluable to me as a social studies educator and U.S. citizen who strives to be an intellectually honest historian.
