Last week, the Washington Post’s report on inconsistent disclosure by the LA Times’ foundation-funded education reporting effort led the LAT to commit to providing information to readers more regularly.

This week, piece from the Columbia Journalism Review brings up the issue again in conjunction with the possibility Eli Broad, the man behind one of the foundations supporting the education team reporting, might purchase the Los Angeles newspaper.

It’s unclear what would happen to the LA Times’ education coverage if Broad bought the paper. Even just discussion of the possibility makes it all the more important that the paper’s education section is consistent and explicit about outside funding that includes (but is not limited to) his foundation.
