Educators Rising — a Grow Your Own teacher preparation program from PDK International for high schoolers — is proud to announce the election of new student officers for the 2024-2025 school year. New officers will serve a one-year term and will be responsible for promoting the organization’s mission and vision in cultivating the new generation of educators. The new student officers are:

  • Char’Tayvious Edwards (Meridian High School, Meridian, Mississippi)
  • Journey Harris (Tarleton State University, Stephenville, Texas)
  • Shae’Aunna Johnson (Many High School, Many, Louisiana)
  • Alexis Lieb (Gahanna Lincoln High School, Gahanna, Ohio)

“Our organization is excited to welcome the new cohort of elected student officers,” said James Lane, CEO of PDK International/Educators Rising. “These students collectively exemplify strong leadership skills and a commitment to education. We are excited to see them in action through the coming year and look forward to amplifying their voices as rising educators.”

Edwards is a senior who served as the 2022-23 vice president of the Educators Rising chapter at the Ross Collins Career and Technical Center. He’s been active in his school’s music program and has served as a tutor for elementary students.

Harris led her chapter as president for two years at Cleburne High School and this year as her university chapter president. She’s earned recognition at past Educators Rising competitions in impromptu and public speaking.

Johnson is a high school senior who has served as a paraprofessional, assisting in classrooms and leading lessons for eight- and nine-year old students. She’s served on her school’s student council and as a national ambassador for Educators Rising since 2021.

Lieb is also a high school senior and has participated in Eastland-Fairfield’s Technical School’s teaching professions program, exploring project-based learning as an approach for working with elementary, middle, and high school classes. She has served as a summer camp counselor and swim instructor. She has competed at the Educators Rising National Conference and is a member of the Educators Rising Honors Society.

Our new cohort of officers will convene at the 2024 Educators Rising National Conference in Washington, D.C., this summer June 28-July 1. After undergoing extensive leadership training and identifying their strengths as student officers, new officers are evaluated and placed into their specific positions through a collaborative effort of staff and current student officers. At the end of their term, these new officers will lead the 2025 National Conference.
