My painting depicts sailboats docked in a bay in Block Island, Rhode Island. I’ve spent every summer in Block Island, and I remember watching the boats for hours from the other side of the bay. I wanted to highlight the boats’ complexity and the bay’s serene atmosphere. I used watercolor because I’ve always been fascinated by the amount of patience and attention it takes to work with the medium.
