Starting Monday, we’ll all be able to read Chalkbeat in some fun new ways, according to an announcement from Philissa Cramer, managing editor (A fresh new way to see Chalkbeat stories).

The local homepages for each bureau won’t change, but there will now be a new “national” homepage too (and one hopes more use of @chalkbeat).

“That new national page, Chalkbeat.org, is where you’ll be able to find the best stories from all our Chalkbeat locations (now including Detroit!).”

This is an important step for the Chalkbeat network, whose work has been tightly focused despite the fact that many readers are interested in a broader set of connecting stories and trends. It’s not their model to cover education from a national perspective, but this move will let those of us who look at things from afar to make some connections and see stories that we might otherwise miss.

Click the link to read more and weigh in about what other changes you’d like to see.

Unsolicited suggestions: a national RSS feed (for Feedly and Digg Reader users), a national “best of” roundup email (daily or weekly), and a new bureau in DC. A map of the bureaus with top stories when you mouse over each location would be fun. But please, not an app. Anything but that.
