On KCREW’s mid-day show, Press Play, Madeleine Brand interviews the LA Times’ Howard Blume about the takeover of the LA School Report by The Seventy Four.

As you’ll hear, Blume credits LA School Report for balanced coverage in the past, but raises questions about the funding and editorial focus of The Seventy Four.

He also discusses the differences between the LA Times receiving funding from outside advocates and The Seventy Four’s funding.

Ironically, as Blume admits, charter school advocate Eli Broad funds the LA Times but does not appear to fund The Seventy Four (or LA School Report).

And, as Blume points out, some of the journalism from The Seventy Four that’s now appearing at LA School Report is good.
