Increasingly, media outlets are adding user-generated images, eyewitness accounts, and reactions from social media to their coverage. But it isn’t always easy finding useful material – especially for mobile-first platforms like the image-sharing site Instagram, which also happens to be particularly favored by students and younger adults.

That’s changed as of last week, according to Poynter:

“No more bending over a smartphone while scouring the Web for user-generated content… Starting today, Instagram users are now empowered to search through the service’s vast repository of images with a discovery tool built for the Web.” (Instagram debuts discover for Web).

Click the box at the center top and enter a search term. Depending on how well it’s been tagged, you’ll find users, events, and other materials.

Now all we need is for someone to make Facebook search easier and better to use, and we’ll be all set.
