This is a tribute to my brother, Gerard, depicting his emotions right after we said our goodbyes before I moved across the country. It’s the first project I created after the move, and to me it symbolizes the end of my old life and the beginning of a new one. It was a calming piece to create, in spite of how anxious I was in my new environment.
I was going to use oil pastels, but after some initial sketches, I opted for colored pencil, which is a comforting medium for me. It’s what I used when I first started drawing, and it’s very precise, allowing me to capture fine details. I enjoy experimenting with a variety of other materials, as well, and I want to begin making 3D artworks, like jewelry or automatons.
