Rick Stiggins, the longtime researcher and authority on classroom assessment (and author of 15 Kappan articles, dating back to 1988), recently filmed a series of 11 short videos that provide an overview of sound educational assessment practice in general, and formative assessment in particular. Responding to questions from members of the Alberta (Canada) Assessment Consortium, Stiggins addresses topics such as: Comparing formative and summative assessment, balancing assessment systems, choosing professional development materials, and policy supports for effective assessment. The videos are free and meant to be shared:
